Giving through Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

Are you interested in making a gift through your Qualified Charitable Distribution?

We are here to help.

By making a gift through your QCD, you join a larger cause. Supporting our community and our neighbors ensures that our programs benefit people not only now, but also in the future.

Here are some key features of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD):

  • You must be at least 70 ½ years old.

  • The maximum amount that can be transferred as a QCD is $100,000 per year per individual. For married couples, each spouse can transfer up to $100,000 from their respective IRAs, potentially totaling $200,000.

  • The amount of the QCD can be excluded from the donor’s taxable income. This can be beneficial for tax purposes, particularly for those who do not itemize deductions and would not otherwise benefit from a charitable deduction. The QCD can also satisfy all or part of the donor’s required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.

  • The distribution must be made directly from the IRA custodian to the charity. If the funds pass through the hands of the donor, they do not qualify as a QCD.

  • You may not receive any goods or services in return for your gift.

Information you’ll need to complete a QCD:

Legal name: Downtown Emergency Service Center

Tax ID number: 91-1275815

Address: 515 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104

Please notify Kenny Fox, our Major & Planned Giving Officer here at DESC at kfox3@desc.org or at (206) 209-6065 when you request a QCD so that your gift can be matched to you when it arrives.

It is helpful to let us know the financial institution that will be issuing the check and a contribution amount. Many financial institutions do not include the donor(s) name on the check.
